Mike Maroth went 7 strong innings as the Burbank Tigers beat the Dominican
Republicans by a score of 3 to 2.
Burbank came up with the deciding runs in the top of the 8th inning scoring 2
runs. After an out was recorded, Brian Roberts was the sparkplug when he
drew a walk. Kaz Matsui came to the plate and popped a two-run clout over
the fence (his 1st of the season). Dominican threatened in the 9th but
Burbank was able to put down the rally.
Maroth(1-3) allowed 1 run in 7 innings, and picked up the victory. Maroth got
help from Jeremy Affeldt who earned his 1st save. The loss was charged to
Jon Leicester(1-1) in relief. He surrendered 1 hit and 2 walks in 2 innings.
Ralph Madara was clearly disappointed after the game. 'It was a manager's
nightmare out there', he said, 'We should have had this one.'
